  • YAY!

    It's raining.

    I mean...it's POURING!!

It began so quickly and it is wonderful!

(Though it is super cold now, even though they claim it's 84 degrees...has my sensitivity to temperature changed that much??!!)

Our office "building" at the Nehemiah Center have a large courtyard in the middle and all of our offices face it.  It is my favorite thing ever to hear the rain coming, look right over the top of my computer and see it fall.

To see the grass turn vibrantly green with wetness!

I have been blessed with such a beautiful workplace!

    Thank You, Jesus!!

    Cheerfully Chilly,

  • The Other Day...

...I saw a man mowing a soccer field...
...with a push mower that was not self propelled...
...in the sweltering heat of a Managua afternoon.
And I wondered if he had been working on it all morning.
Or if, perhaps, he couldn't start until the afternoon due to the fact that the school kids were playing on it all morning.

I was very impressed and give him much credit.
Two years ago I also mowed a soccer field as part of my job.
But I rode a tractor with a 3' mowing deck.
And it still took over an hour.
What he does is no easy task!

    Grateful and Impressed,
    KathrynMichael

  • The Heavens Opened Up

It has been a pretty dry wet season this year!  Dry and hot July and August were close to unbearably hot, September, to some degree, as well, and though October was cooler, it was still not wet.season wet.

So in comes November, full of reconciliation for the lack of precipitation over the last 4 months!  It has been raining quite steadily since noon yesterday, with a few periods of super heavy rainfall! [aaahhhh, I love the rain!

While this is awesome and welcome after such a long dry spell, we also feel a bit apprehensive about the extended length of this downpour.  Since we have been here, October has been the month for floods.  Heavy rains come and the river beds are just not large enough to hold all of the extra rain water and the runoff from the surrounding mountains.  I was beginning to think that we would miss that this year.  But I might be wrong.  It might just be late.

So as we thank the Lord for the rain, we also ask for prayers for safety for those who live near the rivers.  Areas in cities along the rivers tend to be poorer neighborhoods for this very reason (the flooding).  Their houses are less than adequate to stand against the overflow of water from the rains and rivers.  Please join me in prayer for them.

  • Go Eagles!

This afternoon my sister, Olivia, will play her first ever championship game!  The Nicaraguan Christian Academy girls volleyball team has finally made it to the finals after a crazy season!  Most of the girls had never played a game of volleyball when the season started, and it has been so wonderful to watch them grow as a team through their wins and losses and also as individuals as they gain confidence.  And now we made it to the finals!

    Go Lady Eagles!!

Here are both of the NCA teams (Olivia is the blond)

    Cheering after a point!

    Getting ready to recieve

Serving it up! She really has a great serve!

    Keep it up, Livy!
